Wondering what to do with your life? TAKE THE SPARKETYPE TEST x

Camp DIspatches

July 19, 2018

Hey, Campers!

Our anticipation is growing and we can’t wait to play, learn and connect with you all at this year’s camp.

We have so many fun & inspiring activities planned and, as always, we want to ensure we create the most awesome experiences for you.

With that in mind, we have a lot to share with you to help you get ready for camp. So, grab a cup of coffee or tea and take your time reading through this email:)

Bunkmate Request Form is Up

It’s our aim to please! So, if you have anyone you would like to bunk with, please let us know. And, if you are coming solo, no worries!! You’ll have new friends soon! You can also indicate if you are an early riser, a night owl, and/or a light sleeper. We’ll do our best to pair you up with folks who have similar sleep patterns. There are also some questions about dietary restrictions so we can plan menus that take super good care of your belly. You can fill that out HERE.

We’re looking for Camp Buddies

We’re starting to gather people who want to be buddies with new campers. You know, someone to help ease the transition into camp life, send them an email hello before camp, tour the grounds, share a meal with and generally help feel comfortable in a new experience. Are you interested in being a buddy?

If you’re a RETURNING Camper and you’d like to be a Buddy for one of our new Campers, let us know here, and we’ll keep you posted on how it all works. (New campers – check out our next email for a chance to sign up for a Buddy.)

Campfire Talks

Applications are still open for the Campfire Talks! The application can be found HERE and will be open July 5th and closes July 25th.

To recap, we are always looking for new and exciting ways to showcase the brilliance of our campers and this year we’re rolling out a juicy new event inspired by our monthly Camp Jams. Instead of one of our usual keynote spots, we’ll be hosting Live Campfire Talks featuring campers as our speakers! Each talk will have 18 slides set to advance on autopilot every 18 seconds (total time – 5 mins, 24 seconds).

What Should I Bring To Camp?

A “say yes” attitude. A willingness to meet new people, try new things, grow, play and learn. Beyond that, these might also come in handy.

Camp Meet-Ups

One of our FAVORITE parts of Camp is the incredible Camper led Meet-Ups! These sessions have covered a wide-range of topics from the professional to the personal to the just play fun and silly. If you’ve got something you’d like to share with your fellow Campers, this is a perfect way to do it. We’ll have space for Meet-Ups in the afternoon on Friday and Saturday from 1pm-2pm. You can find the Camper Meet Up Info Form HERE. We recommend you come to Camp with this already printed and ready to go, BUT if you come up with an idea last minute, we’ll have some extra blank sheets for you at Camp as well.

Transportation

Not sure how you want to travel to Camp yet? With 36 days until Camp, it’s a good time to start thinking about that and make some plans. And you can always find Camp transportation information on the Camp GLP site under “Directions.” However you decide to get to Camp, we’ll be waiting with high fives and bubbles!

Car: You can also drive to Camp! #roadtrip

Rideshare: If you want to make the drive with a friend, you can find folks to ride with (or to ride with you) on our rideshare form.

Charter Bus: Flying into either Newark or Laguardia airports? You can hop aboard our charter buses.

For LaGuardia, you have the option to purchase a spot on the charter bus TO CampFROM Camp, or Roundtrip.

And if you’re coming in to Newark, same thing. Hop aboard the charter bus TO CampFROM Camp, or Roundtrip.

Free Shuttle Bus Service

There are plenty of ways to get to camp via train or shortline bus. If you choose to take the train to Middletown, NY or the public bus to Monticello, NY, please let us know. There is no charge for the shuttles to & from the bus/train station to & from camp during these selected times on Thursday and SundayComplimentary Shuttle Bus Sign Up

Camp Olympics

Interested in being a Camp Olympics Captain? Let us know! Camp Olympics is a classic summer camp tradition. It’s kind of like a mini Olympics, except instead of feats of herculean strength and speed and flexibility, it’s pretty much a bunch of silly, fun games that anyone with a smile and a little camp spirit can join in. There are 4 teams (each represented by their own color) and 2 captains per team, so we’re looking for 8 campers to serve as captains. The role would include mostly having team spirit, rallying people up, encouraging participation, and having FUN!

July Camp Jam

We are gearing up for our next Camp Jam, Tuesday, July 24 at 8pm EST (that’s 5pm PST) and we just can’t wait to see you! If you’re new here, every month we host a virtual gathering with a topic or theme as a way for campers to say connected, meet new friends, and laugh a whole bunch. If you can make it, great! If not, catch the next one.

Our theme for this Camp Jam is Two Pictures. The premise is super simple. Bring two pictures to share about some part of your life (could be family, a hobby, or an adventure you had!). The pictures can be physical, where you hold them up to your camera, or digital and you can share your screen.

You’ll have a few minutes to share anything you want about them, and then other campers will be able to ask you questions about your pictures and the stories around them. Join from PC, Mac, Linux, iOS or Android: https://zoom.us/j/593544945

That’s all for now Campers! Stay tuned for our email next week, which will have info on how to register for workshops. If you’ve got questions, email us at [email protected]and we’ll take great care of you.

Big Camp Hugs,

Stephanie, Lindsey & the GLP crew
